Our local bank gave a few 2011 calendar (pic 1), as you can see it has a small pouch attached there. It contains of 4 seeds of Pohon Sengon Buto (Enterolobium cyclocarpum), apparently it is in accordance of their green campaign. So, I let those seeds to have a chance for life (pic 2). Started by soaking those seeds in hot water. Yes, hot water. How hot it was? Well, I can dip my finger in the water for at least 5 seconds (OUCH!!!). After 24 hours, the seeds will scald its outer skin (pic 3). The seeds will swell almost double its size and soon will break its shell, exposing its new tiny root (pic 4).
When it shows about 1 cm of root, I placed it in a small polybag. Showed in pic 5 the seed before getting covered with a layer of soil. After 2-3 days, the small little pohon sengon buto is ready to step up to the world. Pic 7 was taken from google, it shows what adult pohon sengon will look like :) It should reached that size in about 5 years.
Actually, Sengon Buto is usually used for its woods. It was chosen because in 5 years, it's ready to harvest. It doesn't bear any taste fruit whatsoever. Thus, it is not suitable for me to plant it here. I want fruiting or flowering tree, it's somehow more rewarding :) Anyway, i think it'll be suitable to be placed in vihara's meditation camp. They need more big trees there.

Oh, btw, from 12 seeds I have, 4 seeds failed to sprout. Maybe the soaking water was way too hot. Hopefully the rest will grow big. Amen.
